The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a 24-hour closer of the Embu – Meru road.
KeNHA in a statement on its verified social media pages on Tuesday night said the road will be closed Mutunduri area Ena.
The decision comes after heavy downpour that the authority said had undermined the drainage structure located close to St Mary’s Kiangima Girls High School.
“The authority cautions road users against any attempts to use this affected atra of the road dufk g the closure period in the interest of their safety,” KeNHA said in a statement.
However, it provided several alternative routes for motorists.
Those heading to Chuka and Meru from Embu have been advised to use the Mutunduri-Kianjokoma-Runyenjes road is is about 25 kilometres while motorists heading to Embu from Meru and Chuka have been asked to use the same route.
For motorists heading to Kivwe and Ena from Embu, they can use Mutunduri – Kipugua, Kipugua – Mutetu and Mutetu – Kivwe routes.
KeNHA further advised motorists coming from Embu to use Ena-Kivwe-Muthatari-Embu road which is approximately 13 kilometres.
It has also asked members of the public to be patient as works on the road continue overnight.
Earlier in the day, the authority had also announced the closure of Oletepedi – Magadi road. This follows occurrence of flash floods in several sections of the road due to the ongoing heavy roads.
“We will continue to monitor water levels and begin restoration works when the water subsides,” KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u said in a statement.
On Monday night, the agency has also closed the Narok – Mai Mahiu Road.
The road has not yet been reopened.
