EURO 2024: Stage set for mouth-watering round of 16 clashes

UEFA EURO 2024 edition’s group stage matches ended on Wednesday night, with big wigs such as former World Champions France, defending champions Italy, Spain, England, Netherlands and Portugal all booking round of 16 slots.

As widely expected, hosts Germany topped group A with 7 points, after wins against Hungary and Scotland, before sharing points with Switzerland in what turned out to be one of the best games of the tournament, so far.

With maximum 9 points out of the three group games, Spain, 2008 and 2012 Champions are the only side with a 100 percent record. Italy finished second in the group, a distant 5 points.

In group C, England topped despite managing a single win while Austria, against all odds topped group D ahead of established sides, France and Netherlands respectively.

All the four teams in group E tied with 4 points apiece, after 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss. Eventually, Romania, Belgium and Slovakia booked their round of 16 slots.

Despite losing to the lowly ranked side in the tournament, Georgia, Portugal topped group F with 6 points, finishing ahead of a determined Turkey side on goal difference. Georgia also pulled through from the group after their unexpected win against Portugal.

This is how teams will square out in the round of 16:

Spain vs Georgia
