Former Westlands Member of Parliament (MP) Fred Gumo on Monday mourned fallen journalist Rita Tinina as the best.
Speaking during her requiem mass in Nairobi, Gumo said she was looking forward to the day when Rita would tie the knot with fellow journalist, Robert Nagila, also known as Bob.
Gumo is Nagila’s uncle. Rita and Robert had a daughter, named Mia Malaikah and per Gumo, he was looking forward to their wedding day.
“When I heard this news I was a way in Kitale. I was surprised because it came as a shock. I didn’t believe it because I knew Rita and each time I met her, I asked her when is this joyful day coming. When is it, you cannot be friends forever? She kept on telling me Mheshimiwa don’t worry the day will come,” said the ex legislature.
46-year-old Rita died on Sunday, March 17th at her house in Kileleshwa, Nairobi, with severe pneumonia being identified as the course of death.
Gumo said the news of her demise broke him down.
“I don’t know that the day that was coming was this particular day which is sad and that which I didn’t want to come to, but it is all God’s wish and as you all know, when God wants you, you will have to go,” he added.
Nagila on his part said she will miss Rita, though she was one of the most difficult people he has ever met.
“When our paths first crossed your beauty, laughter and warm heart touched me. But you are also the most stubborn person I ever met. I shall miss you dearly, Mama Mia,” he said of his departed partner.
“Last Sunday, your phone stopped ringing. Your passing has left a void that cannot be filled. But I am comforted with the fact that the memories of time spent will leave on without us.”
Rita Tinina had rejoined Nation Media Group (NMG) from the Standard Group in October, 2023.
She was on the final touches of making her debut back on NTV, before the untimely death.
She will be buried in Narok County, on Wednesday this week.
