Frida Mokaya appointed new Chief Registrar of Judiciary

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has appointed Mokaya Frida Boyani the new Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.

Chief Justice Martha Koome who is the JSC chair announced Boyani’s appointment on Tuesday.

The announcement came just hours after individuals shortlisted for the position were interviews.The interviews were done on Monday.

7 candidates had been shortlisted out of the 43 that applied to fill the position left vacant after the exit of Ann Amadi in December 2023.

JSC advertised for the position on October 23, 2023.

“Following deliberation and careful consideration of the candidates based on merit, performance and suitability for the position, the JSC has appointed Hon Mokaya Frida Boyani as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary fkr a five year term,” JSC said in a statement.

The commission further said Mokaya has over 27 years of experience in the legal profession.

Prior to her appointment, she has been serving as the Registrar, Judicial Service Commission since 2012.

The new Judiciary Chief Registrar joined the Judiciary in 1997 and served as a District Magistrate, Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate and Chief Principal Magistrate.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

Mokaya is also a Certified Public Secretary. (CPS-K).

“As the Chief Registrar, Hon Mokaya will serve as the Chief Administrator and Accounting Officer of the Judiciary,” JSC said.

“She will also be the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission we well as Secretary to the National Council on Administration of Justice,” it added.

Mokaya becomes the third person to hold the position after the current Uasin Gishu County Woman Member of Parliament Gladys Boss and Ann Amadi.
