A woman who has been hustling in the streets of Mombasa town will be going to bed happy today.
This is after he received an unusual visitor who promised to change her fortunes.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday made a surprise visit to the woman he says he has been seeing her bake mandazi on the streets whenever he passes by Mama Ngina Drive for his morning walks.
During the visit, the DP said he offered to expand the business that has mostly been serving hustlers.
The woman also had a rare opportunity to be hosted by the DP at his official residence in Mombasa.
“In my early morning walks along Mama Ngina Drive in Mombasa City, I usually notice this particular woman engrossed in baking mandazi and cheerfully serving it with tea to her customers, mostly hustlers walking to their places of work,” the second in command said.
“She is Asha Sidi Chengo, whose focus is to fend for the family and secure the future of her children. Today, I reached out to her to understand her drive. I hosted Asha at the Official Residence in Mombasa,” he added.
During the conversation, the second in command said he noticed the woman’s determination to offer her children the best education.
It is from this point of view that he offered to support the education of her sons, aside from supporting her business to expand.
“The deep determination to live a dignified life and specifically offer her children quality education stood out in our conversation. It was, therefore, deserving to support Asha in expanding the hustle, besides Education for her two teenage sons,” DP Gachagua said.
