Religious leaders in Siaya county are calling on parties involved in the negotiations aimed at finding a solution to the ongoing doctors’ strike not to be too rigid in their demands.

Led by the retired Anglican diocese of Maseno West bishop, right reverend Joseph Otieno Wasonga, the clergymen said flexibility amongst both doctors and government officials led by the ministry of health will help a great deal and enable the public health sector to stand again.

They lamented that the strike has significantly impacted on health care services, leading to deaths that would have been avoided had both parties have stopped taking hardline positions.

In a statement read on their behalf by bishop Wasonga, the religious leaders said it was high time an amicable solution was found to the impasse that has seen doctors down their tools for close to two months now.

Meanwhile, the clerics have commended government efforts in handling the emergency situation occasioned by floods.

They called on Kenyans and well-wishers to join hands in helping those affected, adding that this is not a period for heaping blame on each other.

The religious leaders called for patience among Kenyans as the government grapples with the situation which saw the postponement of school opening dates.
