The government must bring to book individuals behind the fake fertiliser racket, Ugenya Member of Parliament David Ochieng has said.

Ochieng said that Kenyans were demanding answers from the government after the racket was exposed and members of the public were falling victims to not only fake fertiliser but maize seeds as well.

He was speaking at Yenga Anglican Church grounds in his Ugenya constituency after presiding over the distribution of certified seeds to the local farmers.

The MP said that his office would distribute 67 tons of fertilizer to the farmers to enable them boost productivity.

Ochieng said that the issue of corruption in farming has become endemic and unless quick action was taken to stop it, food security would be a mirage to achieve.

“The issue of corruption in farming has become endemic that we must deal with it as a country,” he said adding, “we must go to the root of the matter and ensure our farmers get the best”.

The legislator said that despite the hiccups over the fake fertilizer, the current government must be appreciated for putting much focus on food security.

Ochieng said that residents must appreciate that for the first time in years, they could now access fertiliser at cheaper prices.

He said that the Ugenya Constituency Development Fund would continue supplementing government efforts through provision of certified seeds to enable the locals be food secure.
