Homa bay county government has vaccinated cattle against the Black Quarter disease in Rachuonyo East Sub County.

Mr Philip Jabolo, the sub county veterinary officer said that over 2,000 cows were vaccinated after some animals presented signs of the disease.

He said the cattle that were given the jabs in an exercise that started last week on Friday are from Ogilo, Nyawango and Umai villages in Kokwanyo location of Kasipul East division.

The veterinary officer praised the local residents for heeding the call and availing their animals for the vaccine at the designated sites.

Black quarter is a highly fatal and acute bacterial disease characterized by swelling of the muscle especially the hindquarter without any prior history of a wound or injury in a cow. Mr Jabolo said the disease affects the healthiest of cows in a herd.

The two-day exercise came to a close with vaccination of cattle in Omolo, Angino and Andingo villages in Kokwanyo East sub location.
