How to check your university, TVET placement

By Peter Ochieng

Are you a student who had applied for university or Technical, Vocational, Education, Training (TVET) placement through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS)?

Well, KUCCPS on Tuesday released placement results for learners who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023.

If you wish to know the higher institution of learning you have been placed in, the process is as simple as ABCD.

The process starts when one logs in to the KUCCPS student’s portal – http://students.kuccps.net. Once one clicks on the login link, he or she will be required to enter their KCSE index number, the year they sat for national exams, and then the password.

A student can use his or her birth certificate number, or the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number as the password to log into the portal.

Once in, the student will see a congratulations message from KUCCPS, accompanied by name of the institution and the course clearly displayed in green.

This writer went through the process to confirm placement for a relative. He can confirm that the process is much faster, compared to how things were during the application process.

Speaking while releasing the results, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome said male students continued their dominance in degree programs.

“Male applicants continued to dominate placement to Degree programs, sustaining a trend that has been observed since the beginning of the central placement system,” she said.

“In contrast, female students were the majority of those placed in TVET, from the 2020/2021 cycle to the present,” added Wahome.

Bachelor of Education program attracted the highest number of applicants, with KUCCPS stating that 85 percent of 2023 KCSE candidates with C+ and above made applications for courses.

Of the total that made course applications, 76.2 percent opted for degree courses while the rest opted for diploma courses.
