Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia led a crackdown against illicit brewing where hundreds of liters of illegal brews were impounded.
Lotiatia who spoke after conducting the exercise said over 700 liters of Kangara, 65 liters of Changaa and 37 cartons of second generation liquor had been intercepted in Narok town and its environs in the last one week.
At the same time, he said one notorious brewer was arrested within the town with 15 cartons of second generation liquor.
Lotiatia warned the members of the public that the war against illicit brewing will continue, warning those in the illegal business to turn to other productive business.
“We are engaging all the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO), the police, religious leaders, maasai council of elders and village elders to fight illegal brewing. We are positive that we will eradicate all illegal dens in the county,” said the commissioner.
He reiterated that in a period of one week, they have arrested over 30 people who have been arraigned and charged in court.
“I urge the members of the public to give information that will lead to the arrest of all people carrying out the illegal business,” the commissioner urged.
Lotiatia underscored that the drinks confiscated will be kept in police custody as their samples are taken to government chemist to ascertain their quality.
The commissioner spoke outside his office in presence of Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare, Narok Criminal Investigating Officer Peter Kieti and Critical Infrastructure Police Commander Peter Mwangi.
