Rsidents of Ijara sub County have been urged to desist from marrying off their teenage daughters, but instead let them complete their education.

Ijara Sub County Deputy County Commissioner Wachira Champon said the practice was retrogressive and retarding efforts made by the government to upscale the level of education in the area.

The Deputy county commissioner warned the habit was rampant in the area and was reversing gains made in the education sector in the vast North Eastern region.

On security issues, Wachira hailed residents for collaborating with security agents to restore tranquility in the area.

He specifically thanked local political leaders, elders and Imams for assisting the government to restore and maintain peace after previous cases of insecurity in the region.

The administrator who spoke during this year’s Madaraka Day fete also urged residents to coexist peacefully with their neighbours in Lamu county.

He said this was the only way to avoid Cross- County pasture and water conflicts that have in the past sparked ugly confrontations in Gababa and Garsweino villages in the region.
