JKIA runway cleared, normal operations resume

By Peter Ochieng

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced resumption of normal operations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, after some hours of disruptions due to an aircraft incident.

“The disabled aircraft has been recovered from the runway, and normal airport operations have resumed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation,” said KAA.

Earlier, KAA had announced a closure of the runway at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), one of the busiest in Africa, after an aircraft incident. “An aircraft incident has caused runway closure at JKIA,” read the brief statement.

“No injuries have been reported. Removal of the aircraft is underway.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates shortly.”

The closure was attributed to a faulty plane that reportedly landed on the runway earlier today.

The closure meant flights might be delayed, rerouted, or cancelled, depending on the severity and duration of the closure.

Air traffic controllers worked to manage the situation and minimise disruptions.
