At least 4,000 needy students in Colleges and Universities from Kaiti Constituency were awarded over Ksh 30 million in scholarships under the National Government Constituency Fund (NGCF) education bursary programme.

Speaking at the Kaiti Constituency office in Mukuyuni Market, area Member of Parliament (MP) Joshua Kimilu announced that he had instructed his staff at the constituency office to directly take the cheques to the institutions to avert malpractices witnessed after the issuance of the documents to successful applicants.

“The students who have benefitted applied for the bursary in December 2023. But we will ensure the cheques are delivered in person to avoid cases where individuals changed the original details in the document,” said Kimilu while launching the disbursement of the cheques.

During the launch, the MP said that the application for the monies for a bursary will be done manually and will not be put online.

Consequently, He said that it was important for the students to come personally especially those in universities and colleges to apply so that they can interact and articulate their challenges besides being mentored.

“Those who want me to apply for bursaries will continue to wait. I want to meet the students and talk to them, know their challenges, and mentor them too,” posed the MP.

“I ask parents to stop applying for bursaries for university and colleges. The parents misspell the names of institutions which leads to cheques bouncing back. However, they should come and apply for secondary school students,” noted Kimilu.

On the doctor’s strike, Kimilu urged the government to sit down with the doctors and agree to alleviate the suffering citizens across the country are getting as they cannot access treatment in government health facilities.
