Police in Kakamega County on Monday confiscated bhang with a street value of Sh 5.4 million in a Nairobi bound truck as the main suspect escaped.

Police intercepted the bhang at Musembe area in Lugari Sub County along the Malaba-Eldoret highway.

Confirming the incident, Kakamega County Police Commander Joseph Kigen disclosed to the press that the bhang weighing 180 kilograms had been stashed in four sacks.

“We seized 4 sacks from the lorry. Our officers from the Anti-narcotics section have weighed the already processed bhang and it is about 180 kilograms”, said Kigen.

The truck driver who is the main suspect escaped and police have launched a manhunt to apprehend and take legal action against him.

Kigen urged drug peddlers to stop the illicit trade saying security agencies have beefed up surveillance hence their days are numbered.

“We have intensified the war against narcotics and we are appealing to members of the public to always share information with us so that we can take action immediately.

“Drugs are dangerous and are destroying our society hence we won’t allow it to gain entrance into any part of our country,” he stated.
