The Kenya Railways Authority has announced resumption of train services is some routes within Nairobi metropolitan area.

The services resumes starting this morning.

“We are pleased to inform the public that commuter train services will resume on 7th 2024,” the authority said in part of the statement.

Routes that the commuter services will resume include Embakasi village, Lukenya, the SGR Link train and Syokimau.

However, the commuter services for Limuru and Ruiru remain suspended due to ongoing track repair works on the two lines.

The commuter train services were suspended several weeks ago after heavy rains led to flooding and damage on parts of the railway line.

But, the Kenya Railways Authority has been working on repairing the rails in bid to resume the services.

Most of the train services operate within populated estates in Nairobi metropolitan area.

The commuter train services have been a preference to Nairobians due regular traffic jam on the city roads.

But according to the authority, despite resumption of the services, they are subject to change on a short notice. This is due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

“We also with to advise the public that commuter train services are subject to change on a short notice, depending on weather conditions and other safety considerations,” the Kenya Railways Authority said.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore normalcy,” it added.

Aside from the rail systems, the ongoing rains have also seen multiple roads crossed due to siltation and floodings.

However, the Kenya National Highways Authority has been working on restoration works, with traffic resuming in most of them.
