A Kericho court on Thursday charged a middle age man found selling changaa and busaa illicit brews.

The accused, Johana Cheruiyot Chepkwony, was charged for dealing in alcoholic drinks namely 200 litres busaa and 100 litres changaa contrary to section 7 (1) (b) as read with section 62 of the Alcohol Drinks Control Act No. 4 of 2010.

Chepkwony was found on 2 April 2024 at around 8am hours at Samutet village in Bureti sub-county within Kericho County transacting in the illicit liquors without a license.

When he was arraigned before Kericho Senior Principal Magistrate Johnson Monguti, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two counts and was released on a bond of Sh100,000 or a cash bail of Sh60,000.

He however failed to raise the bond terms and was remanded at the Kericho GK main prison until April 23, 2024 when he will appear in court for a mention of his case.
