The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has ruled out the possibility of extending the deadline for registration exercise of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams.

The examination body wants parents and guardians to visit their children’s schools so as to ensure they have been registered, with data or details accurately captured, before the March 29, 2024 deadline.

Relevant details include name and the date of birth.

“Please note that the portal for registration of this year’s candidates closes on March 29 and there will be no extension of the deadline. No requests for late registration will be honoured past March 29,” KNEC said in a statement on Friday.

“Please visit your child’s school and ensure he/she is registered and the details captured accurately. Do not let your child miss the exams.”

The registration exercise has been going on since 29th January, 2024.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Njengere on the other hand, has warned that the registration of ‘ghost’ candidates will not be allowed. Njengere said those found culpable will ‘face the music.’

“Registration of ghost candidates will attract sanctions, including de-registration of the school as a KNEC examination centre,” he said.

He adds that the transfer of candidates is only allowed during the registration period, adding that after the closure of the exercise, transfers will not be allowed.

“The transfer of candidates must be done online to avoid duplication of candidates. The assessment number is mandatory for registration. Upon registration, the head of the institution must make sure that the learners’ scores for Grades 4 and 5 are uploaded.”

The exams will be administered starting the end of October, 2024.
