Laikipia affordable housing to include the upgrade of local institutions

Following the construction of affordable houses in Laikipia County, residents are expected to benefit with millions of shillings upgrade of local institutions.

Mount Kenya Region Affordable Housing director Gakuru Muchiri says that schools, hospitals and open markets will be improved to ensure those who acquire affordable housing units don’t grapple when accessing essential services.

‘’With the on-going construction of 200 housing units in Nanyuki, we will have to upgrade associated infrastructure like schools, hospitals and markets so that the affordable housing occupants can access quality services without being inconvenienced,” said Muchiri.

Muchiri who was speaking to the press after an affordable housing project public participation in Nanyuki town, pointed out that more than Sh.350 million has been earmarked for the construction of the Nanyuki open air market in coming weeks, a move targeting to spur county economic growth.

‘’In Nanyuki, we are constructing over sh. 350 million state of the art open air market aimed at ensuring that those who stay in our houses have access to various goods. This will be a major boost to Laikipia residents,” Muchiri added.

Muchiri further said that the Nanyuki Affordable Housing project was 50 percent complete and they expected to handle about 200 house units by November this year.

Additionally, he encouraged residents to apply for the units to avoid missing out once they are complete.

Laikipia county commissioner Onesmus Kyatha said that the majority of residents had expressed interest in affordable housing ownership and at the same time added that the government was keen on providing a decent living standard to the public.

‘’Majority of people are in need of affordable houses and I encourage them to seize the opportunity. The President Dr. William Ruto promised to construct more units in Rumuruti and Nyahururu,” Kyatha said.

Kyatha revealed that Laikipia was a major beneficiary of the Affordable Housing project.
