Lamu County Commissioner Louis Rono is dead

Lamu County Commissioner Louis Rono has died.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration confirmed Rono’s death on Friday morning.

In a statement posted on his verified social media pages, Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki said the county Commissioner died after a short illness.

“The Ministry of Interior and National Administration is saddened by the sudden death of Louis Rono, the County Commissioner for Lamu County following an illness,” the CS said on his verified X handle.

According to Kindiki, the late county security boss has served in various positions with distinction.

He was in the public service for at least 28 years.One of his standout performance in the County Commissioner’s role is leading war against terror in Lamu.

The county has been a target of terrorism in the recent years.

“Rono has served the Country with patriotism and dedication for 28 years without blemish,” Kindiki said.

“The Late Rono served with distinction in various ranks and stations throughout his career, and will be remembered for leading the Lamu County Security and Intelligence Team in sustaining the war against terror in the Boni Enclave,” he added.

The Ministry of Interior shared a similar message on its verified social media pages.It also send a message of condolence to the family and friends of the county commissioner.

“May his family find comfort during this painful moment of profound loss,” ministry said.

A County Commissioner is the representative of the President at the county level.

They chair the county security committee that also has the county governor as a member.
