Majority of Young athletes gathered in large numbers for the 5th Edition of the Eldoret City

Athletes brave cold weather to clinch trophy Marathon, despite cold weather, to compete for top titles.

The race consisted of two categories: the 10 Km fan race and the 42Km main race both men and women.

In the men’s category Victor Kipchirchir defended his title for the third time clocking 2:12:52, Felix Mutai and Evans Kipruto clinched the second and third positions clocking 2:12:56and 2:13:20 respectively.

Whereas, Emily Chepkemboi from west Pokot County emerged the winner in the female category after running for 2:30:14 followed by Akeno Martha by 2:31:22and Joan Jepkosgei in the third position in 2:34:16Kipchirchir attributed his three consecutive wins to thorough training and self-discipline.

“The race was good from the start. Though I had an injury, I was not expecting to win butreaching 33KM, that is when I realized I can win today for the 3 rd time and strengthened the paceto defend the title. No secret but only training,” he said.

On her part, Chepkemboi said the race had been a challenge because of the cold weather but since she did proper training, she managed to be the winner, hence, she hopes to participate in international races like Berlin, Paris and others in future.

The individual expresses gratitude for their successful training and the warm weather they experienced during the race, expressing gratitude for their achievement.

Kesses Member Of Parliament Julius Ruto praised the Eldoret City marathon's participation in the fun race,highlighting its 2018 aim to nurture young talents and support their international races.

“This is to promote the culture of this city and region as the city of champions, to give the athlete the opportunity to shine both at home and internationally,” said the Legislator.

“This marathon provides athletes in Nairobi and other parts of the country with an opportunity to showcase their skills and gain recognition from partners, potentially sponsoring them for other top marathons,” explained Ruto.
