Man in court over chang’aa

A Kericho man has denied a charge of possessing 280 litres of chang’aa at his homestead during a court appearance.

The accused, Peter Kiprono Chepkwony was charged for being in possession of alcoholic drinks for sale without license contrary to section 7 (1) (b) as read with section 62 of the alcohol drinks control Act No. 4 of 2010.

Chepkwony was found on 15, May 2024 at America village in Litein Township in Bureti sub-county within Kericho County transacting with 280 litres of chang,aa without a license, after which he was arraigned before the Kericho Senior Resident Magistrate Japhet Bii.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a bond of Sh200,000 or a cash bail of Sh 100,000.

However, Chepkwony failed to raise bond terms and was remanded at the Kericho GK main prison, until May 28th his case will be mentioned.
