The man who was reported on Wednesday to have sneaked into one of the female hostel rooms in Laikipia University and stabbed a female student to death has succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital .
Ezra Kipkorir Koech was reported to have killed Gertrude Chepkoech a first-year student at the university who was his girlfriend’s roommate. The suspect is said to have been a fourth year engineering student at the Dedan Kimathi University .
The suspect was subjected to mob beating after the students discovered the inhuman act, before being rescued by police and taken to the Hospital.
“He succumbed to serious head injuries he sustained from the beating…The injuries were very severe,” said Thomas Kiptoo, the hospital’s administrator.
.According to Kiptoo, the suspect had a deep cut on the throat and stomach which witnesses said were self inflicted before they pounced on him.
Nyahururu Sub County Police Commander, Mary Kiema said that the body of the suspect is lying at the morgue but had been booked unknown since no family member had come to claim it.
“We are still waiting for family members to show up as none has come,” she said.
The suspect had entered into his girlfriends room only to find her roommate and immediately stubbed her to death under unknown circumstances. However, the police are on the matter to establish what caused the incident.
“Police have opened an investigation into the matter to establish the root course of the incident,” said Ms. Kiema.
