Migori Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) officials have lashed the Public Services Cabinet Secretary Mr. Moses Kuria for proposing that public servants’ employment terms be changed from permanent to pensionable to contracts.

Migori KUPPET Executive Secretary Jasolo Orwa who spoke during a meeting with the Migori Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) interns in Migori town said that as teachers they will not allow any changes to their employment terms from permanent to contracts.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria last week revealed plans to end all permanent and pensionable jobs in the Public Service, proposing that all civil servants, across all job groups, be placed on contract terms.

Orwa called upon the Cabinet Secretary to re-track his sentiments and apologise to all the public servants working in various Ministries and sectors of the government.

The KUPPET official also called upon the government to absorb the Junior Secondary teachers on contract terms to permanent and pension to ensure smooth implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) as the country prepares to absorb grade nine to senior secondary schools next year.

Orwa said that already the Labour Relation Court had declared internship illegal in the teaching service paving the way for the intern’s teachers to be employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
