Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has already declared his bid for the 2027 presidential election, having supported Azimio leader Raila Odinga, in 2013, 2017 and 2022.
In a social media post on Thursday, Musyoka seemingly suggested that he will easily win the presidential race, if he gets support from the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Akamba communities.
“What has been done here is irreversible. G – Gikuyu, E – Embu, M – Meru, A – Akamba (GEMA). The next step is a declaration,” Musyoka wrote after leading Kamba elders to a meeting with the elders aligned to the Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE).
The KCA in a statement said the meeting deliberated on various issues, including the view that the Akamba community was part of the larger Mt. Kenya community.
GEMA traditionally refers to Agikuyu, Embu, Meru Association. During the meeting, the elders suggested that the acronym becomes GEMAA to accomodate the Akamba community, where Musyoka hails from him.
Reacting to Kalonzo’s post, lawyer Miguna Miguna said he can beat him hands down in a presidential contest, provided tribe is not a factor in the elections.
“Mr. @skmusyoka, you actually believe that listing Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Akamba will make you president? I can and will defeat you in a presidential election without a pseudo ethnic coalition,” said the vocal advocate.
Kalonzo Musyoka, the former Vice President contested for the 2007 presidential seat. He lost to retired President, the late Mwai Kibaki.
On the other hand, Miguna Miguna has never ran to occupy the top seat in the country. He vied for the Nairobi county gubernatorial seat in 2017, and lost to Mike Mbuvi, alias Sonko.
