“It is a programme that is greatly help our country in terms of climate action to ensure we have good rains, protect our water towers and practice smart agriculture,” said Mueke at Makongo view point in Makueni Sub county on Friday where he led members of the public and government officials to plant 10,000 tree seedlings to commemorate people who perished in the recent floods in the country.

On fertiliser, he disclosed that the government has released fertiliser to National Cereals and Produce Board and urged farmers to go and collect the fertiliser and plant in a bid to improve production and enhance food security.

Speaking at the same function, the County Executive Committee Member for Department of lands, Urban Planning and Environment Nicolas Nzioka urged Makueni residents to plant at least 10 trees in their farms in order to improve the environment.

On the rains pounding the area, Nzioka warned residents against crossing Floods Rivers saying they risked death.

Present at the event included Makueni County Commissioner Henry Wafula, Makueni High Court Judge Teresia Matheka, national and county government officials and wananchi.
