Moderate earth tremor reported in Nairobi and its environs

A moderate magnitude earth tremor was on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, reported in several parts of Nairobi metropolitan area.

Reports by Armistice Security Consult International (ASCI) show that the earth tremor took place at around 1.25 pm, East African Time mIt affected Nairobi and nearby areas.

“Incident Alert Incident: Earth tremor/quake Location: Nairobi, Kenya (environs). Incident Time: 13:25 EAT 5th June 2024,” read part of a post by the organisation.

ASCI is a global security risk management agency that focuses on terrorism, conflict, strategic communications and security information services as well as incident alerts and situation reports.

“Issues: Moderate Magnitude earth tremor reported in Nairobi and its environs,” it added.

However, due to the moderate magnitude of the earth tremor, no major effects were reported.

Few Kenyans also experienced the incident and as usual, had to take to their social media pages to confirm if it was indeed am earth tremor.

Donatos said, “I’m definitely not high, or sleep deprived so I’m certain that’s a tremor I felt. We all felt that, right? RIGHT?”

“Anyone experienced an earth tremor? On Riara Road,” another X user asked.

Ali Bile offered to provide even more details of the incident.

He said, “There was indeed a reported incident of ground shaking in Nairobi and its environs at approximately 1:25 PM EAT on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.”

“The tremor was caused by a minor earthquake, which was felt in several parts of the city. While the exact magnitude and epicenter details are still being confirmed, initial reports suggest that the quake was relatively small and there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries,” he added.

Since 2022, Kenya has had 2 quakes of magnitudes above 4 and up to 5.0: 0 quakes above magnitude 5. 2 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5.

The biggest earthquake hit Kenya was reported In 1928, which was of magnitude 6.9 at Subukia.
