Moi University bus involved in road accident

A bus carrying students from Moi University was on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, involved in a road accident.

Photos of the bus involved in the accident have been doing rounds on various social media pages since early in the morning.

It shows the bus had rolled off the road.

However, reports indicate that there were no fatalities.

The cause of the accident is yet to be identified.

Moi University Vice Chancellor Prof Isaac Kosgey confirmed the incident in a post shared on the institution’s verified Facebook page.

According to the VC, the bus had 65 Swahili students who were on an academic trip.

He further said the accident was reported at the Kimende area along the Naivasha-Nairobi Highway.

“This morning at around 9.50 a.m., our University Bus KCK 583U with 65 students on board, was involved in a non-fatal traffic accident at Kimende area on the Nakuru – Nairobi Highway while on an Academic Trip with students from the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Kiswahili,’ the VC said in the statement.

“I am relieved to inform you that there were no casualties or fatalities, and all students are safe. I would like to express my gratitude for your concern and support during this time,” he added.

A bus has since been dispatched to transport the students back to the university’s main campus in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County.

Meanwhile, the VC asked drivers to be cautious on the road, especially during the upcoming Easter Holidays.

He also announced that all academic trips at the university had been suspended.

“In light of this incident, I urge all Drivers and road users to exercise extra caution during the Easter Holidays. As a precautionary measure, all Academic Trips have been suspended until after the Easter Holidays,” Prof Kosgey said.
