MP vows to contest in next ODM elections

Sunday, March 31,  2024

KNA By Philip Onyango.

Gem Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator has vowed to clinch the deputy party leader’s position in the next party polls.

The member of parliament, Elisha Odhiambo is challenging the party leadership to call for the national executive council meeting to plan for the polls.

Speaking during a funds drive at Dienya secondary school in Gem Wagai sub county, Siaya yesterday, Odhiambo lamented that the party leadership was trying to make the central management committee take over the functions of the NEC contrary to the party constitution.

“The Central Management Committee cannot be powerful than the NEC,” he said.

On the party elections, the legislator, who is among a few ODM legislators from Nyanza who embraced the Kenya Kwanza government under President William Ruto, said he will use his persuasion and negotiation skills to ensure that he clinches the deputy party leader’s position.

“This is about persuasion. Let us use the art of persuasion to influence delegates to vote for us” he said.

He said that the ODM party leadership cannot be entrusted on people from one ethnic group and added that the party top brass must have the face of Kenya.

Addressing the occasion, a director of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority, Hesborne Omollo called on Kenyans to support the government.

Omollo, who represented the Principal Secretary for Interior, Dr. Raymond Omollo as the chief guest further urged students to stay focused and maintain discipline if they are to succeed in life.

“Do not let the allure of adolescence distract you from your studies,” he said.

Over one million shillings was raised for infrastructural improvement in the school, with PS Omollo contributing sh. 200,000 and MP Elisha Odhiambo donating sh. 100,000.
