In a significant operation aimed at enforcing the county-wide ban on Muguka, Kilifi County authorities have seized and destroyed over 10 sacks of the stimulant.

The crackdown, conducted in various regions including Malindi, Adu, Mtwapa, Kilifi Kaskazini, Mariakani, and Gongoni, also resulted in the arrest of several vendors found in possession of the banned substance.

The county’s security officers led the operation, which saw the confiscated Muguka set ablaze as a public demonstration of the county’s commitment to eradicating the use and distribution of the substance.

The move follows a directive issued by Kilifi County officials, which strictly prohibits the use and importation of Muguka within the region.

“We are grateful to the residents of Kilifi who have continued to cooperate with us by providing crucial information about those violating the ban,” stated Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro.

“This operation is a testament to our resolve to put an end to this menace and save our youth from the detrimental effects of Muguka.”Muguka, a variant of khat, has been a contentious issue in Kilifi, with authorities citing its adverse effects on the youth, including addiction and social disruption.

The county’s decision to ban the substance has been met with both support and resistance, with proponents arguing that it is necessary to safeguard public health and safety.

The recent crackdown is part of a broader initiative by the Kilifi County government to reinforce the ban and eliminate the presence of Muguka in local communities. Residents have been urged to continue reporting any activities related to the distribution or consumption of the banned substance.

Governor Mung’aro assured the public that the county administration remains dedicated to eradicating Muguka and will continue to conduct such operations to enforce the ban effectively. “I believe that together, we will end this scourge and protect our youth,” he added.

The county’s efforts have also been bolstered by community outreach programs aimed at educating the public about the harmful effects of Muguka and promoting alternative livelihoods for those previously involved in its trade.

As Kilifi continues its battle against Muguka, the county administration calls for continued community support and vigilance to ensure the success of the ban and the well-being of its residents.
