ODM brands MP Nyamita a UDA agent

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has branded Uriri Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Nyamita a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) agent in Migori county.

In a statement, ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, said the MP has been granted permission to no longer be part of the Raila Odinga led political outfit.

“At this stage, the party wishes to dissociate itself from Hon. Nyamita fully. We have granted his wish to no longer be part of us and advise our members in Uriri and Migori generally that he is an agent of UDA with the assigned task of sowing confusion and discord within ODM,” said Sifuna.

“Hon. Nyamita does not speak for nor represent the party at any level and we advise our members to view and treat him and all those who support him accordingly.”

Nyamita did not show up on Wednesday, during the party’s central committee meeting with its elected leaders from Migori and Kisii.

The meeting was called to get a brief following the recent worrying incidences of violence in the two counties, where police used teargas to disperse politicians and supporters from different camps in Migori on Friday and Kisii on Sunday last week.

In Migori, violence ensued during a funeral service while in Kisii, it erupted during a Church fundraiser.

Migori governor George Ochillo Ayacko, Senator Eddy Oketch, Women Representative Fatuma Mohamed, Suna West MP Peter Masara, his Suna East counterpart Junet Mohammed, Kitutu Chache South legislature Anthony Kibangedi, Bomachoge Borabu’s Obadiah Barango and Patrick Osero from Nyamira county attended the meeting.

After deliberations, Sifuna said they arrived at a conclusion that there is “a clear and calculated plan to use State to destabilize ODM-run counties and constituencies in partnership with rogue members of the party, some subject to ongoing disciplinary proceedings.”

“The party condems in the strangest terms this blatant abuse of police and state power to intimidate our people and prop up regime stooges in our strongholds,” added the vocal Senator.

He said they will soon lodge formal complaints with the relevant authorities.

About a year ago, ODM expelled five legislatures over allegations of gross misconduct.

The MPs, Felix Odiwour alias Jalang’o of Lang’ata, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, Suba South’s Caroli Omondi, and Gideon Ochanda of Bondo constituency, were accused of defying the party’s position on various matters, and associating themselves with the Kenya Kwanza regime.

On the other hand,bNairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris was fined Sh250,000 for her actions that allegedly violated the party’s interests.

Rongo MP Paul Abuor and Uriri’S Nyamita were fined Sh1 million each. Nyamita has been accused of joining UDA’s camp to destabilize ODM in Nyanza.
