Over 300 bars have been closed across Embu County as authorities intensify war on production and sale of illicit and counterfeit brews.

County Commissioner Jack Obuo said over 200 suspects had also been arrested in the ongoing operation that is also targeting unlicensed and non-compliant chemists and agrovets.

He said in collaboration with the County Government, they are also carrying out inspection of bars to be followed by Sub-counties Liquor Committee meetings to guide the new licensing regime.

The CC was speaking a day after carrying out a raid on a notorious outlet known for sale of local brew popularly known as Machore in Ena Market within Embu West Sub- County on Wednesday night.

The raid was carried out alongside county officials led by Governor Cecily Mbarire where some 38 revelers were arrested.

However, no liquor was nabbed as the suspects and the proprietor of the premise hurriedly poured the brew before detectives stormed in.

Governor Mbarire announced that they had closed the bar and the license will be cancelled forthwith even as she announced that the operation will be sustained until the county is rid of the illicit liquor menace.

The officials called for collaboration from members of the public in sharing crucial information to win the war against alcohol and drugs.
