Cole Palmer won Premier league double awards for the month of April with the Budweiser Goal of the Month and the Premier League player of the month award.
His superb opening goal in Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton won April 2024’s Budweiser Goal of the Month award.
Palmer overcame Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and played a backheel flick to Nicolas Jackson before receiving the ball back on the edge of the box and curling into the bottom-left corner for his first of four goals on the night.
The 22-year-old is the first Chelsea player in Premier League history to win both the Budweiser Goal of the Month and EA SPORTS Player of the Month awards in the same month.
Overall, he is one of only five players to achieve that feat, after Bruno Fernandes in June 2020, Jesse Lingard in April 2021, Mohamed Salah in October 2021 and Miguel Almiron in October 2022.
It is the first time a Chelsea player has won the award since Eden Hazard did so in April 2019 for his solo effort against West Ham United.
Palmer is also in the running to win the EA SPORTS Player of the Season and Hublot Young Player of the Season awards facing tight competition from Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.
Meanwhile, Everton boss Sean Dyche won the Premier League’s manager of the month for April.
The Blues took 13 points of a possible 18 and recorded four consecutive wins at home – without conceding a goal – that secured their survival in the top flight. One of those wins was over Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
Dyche, who has now won this award three times in career, becomes the first Toffees manager to receive the award since Carlo Ancelotti back in September 2020.
“I’m very pleased,” he said. “Obviously on behalf of firstly myself, but of my staff and the players, and the fans who have played their part.
“It was a really good run and a very pleasing and a tough month of fixtures.
“The derby win is the one that stands out, without a doubt.”
Manchester united stopper Andre Onana’s superb reaction stop to deny Burnley’s Lyle Foster won April 2024’s Castrol Save of the Month award.
goalkeeper Onana made a fantastic reflex save to his left, keeping out Foster’s header to prevent Burnley from taking the lead at Old Trafford.
Onana’s stop topped a shortlist of six of the best saves by goalkeepers across the month.
Fans have until Monday 13 May to vote for their winners of the Player of the season, Young player of the season and manager of the season awards.
