The government has urged Kitise/Kithuki ward residents in Makueni to report defilement and incest incidents in the region noting the vices are on the increase.

Kathozweni Sub County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Annabel Kitonga called on residents to collaborate with the government in curbing crime in the region.

Kitonga disclosed that girls disappear from school and after a short while the children report back, a trend she noted need to be curbed to help in retaining them in school.

“Many of these defilement cases are disgusting it is sad to hear that a child has been defiled and in this region girls aged between 12 and 16 years are at the risk of falling prey to the offenders. You hear rumours that a girl has disappeared with a man but later reappeared and then went back to school as if nothing happened,” said Kitonga.

“Basically this is what is supposed to be reported. But the parents and the general members of the community are so unwillingly to report such cases to the police for investigation,” said the DCC.

The official who spoke from Yikithuki Mixed Day and Boarding Primary School lauded chiefs for helping fight the vice but warned the work should be a collective responsibility involving residents as well.

“I need parents and the community at large to be honest in taking care of their children. Our girls should be allowed to continue with their learning without any interruptions,” she posed.

On his part, the Kitise/Kithuki Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Sebastian Muli said that the county Government of Makueni has allocated Sh1 million to help the residents in succession management cases besides assisting them in getting title deeds.

“In every ward in the County, Sh1 million has been allocated to help those with land succession cases and ensure they get title deeds,” said Muli.
