Enkasiti primary school in Kajiado has received a 55-seater school bus from President William Ruto through the State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito.
The bus will serve the school during educational and co-curriculum trips.
Rashid Abdala, Enkasiti primary school Head Teacher revealed that, pupils normally use public means of transport, which is not safe hence the new bus will ensure the safety of the pupils.
“For a very long time we have suffered as a school while traveling and today our problem has been solved. Our pupils will not be using tuktuk or public service Matatus when coming to school. They will be coming to school early and there will be no lateness any more. It is a big relief to the community around here, pupils will be carried from Kitengela to school, and parents will only pay Sh2,000 to cater for transport, fuel costs and the driver,” said Abdala.
Abdala added that, minus the bus, the pupils experience accidents, lateness with unstable means of transport hence he is grateful the problem is now ended.
“We have had so many challenges from our pupils coming to school. Personally my children got involved in an accident while traveling with tuktuk and that is why we resolved that no more tuktuk, I contracted someone to be transporting pupils to school but depending on the school’s population, it was not enough. We are so happy about the new bus,” added Abdala.
During the handing over of the bus to the school, former Kajiado governor David Nkedianye asked the teachers to take advantage of the bus and boost the performance of the school.
He encouraged them to ensure their performance attracts more pupils in the school to emulate most private schools.
“Teachers, a school is as good as the head and the teachers. Usually 60 percent of a school’s performance is related directly to the head and teachers, privates are thriving because most public schools are not well managed.
This bus will increase the performance of this school and attract more children to be enrolled.
Next we expect the school to request for another bus because of the growth of school’s population and improved performance,” Nkedianye pointed out.
As the pupils are headed for the holidays, State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito asked the parents to embrace good morals and instill them in their children as they will be the teachers at home.
“I would like to ask the parents to take good care of these children as they go home. Help them grow up in church, teach them how to respect their teachers, you as parents and themselves. The Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) allows parents to be teachers too so I call on you to be their teacher until the school opens”, said Ole Metito.
