President Ruto sends warm congratulations to Indian PM Modi after election victory

President William Ruto has congratulated Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi who secured a historic re-election in one of the world’s biggest polls.

“I extend my congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his historic re-election in the recently concluded elections.” Ruto tweeted

The President also hailed Indians for practicing their democratic rights and conducting a peaceful election.

“I also wish to congratulate the people of India for once again affirming to the world the vibrancy and maturity of their democracy.

This is another testament to the strength of the world’s largest democracy.

As you move forward, Your Excellency Modi, I am confident that your commitment to a better India will accelerate growth and development, and enhance the unity and prosperity of the nation.”Ruto said

Ruto said Modi’s re-election with further strengthen the Bilateral ties between the two countries following his official visit to the country earlier this year.

” As your partner and friend, Kenya looks forward to further strengthening our bilateral relations and working together to galvanize the search for cooperative solutions to the most formidable challenges that threaten the stability of our world and its sustainability, including conflicts, the climate crisis, and the debt burden.”Ruto added.

Narendra Modi has been elected leader of the coalition led by his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is now expected to stake claim to form the next government.

Modi depends on allies after the BJP failed to secure an outright majority for the first time since sweeping to power a decade ago and got 240 seats in the staggered election, 32 short of the halfway mark in the 543-member Lok Sabha.

In a remarkable turnaround, the main opposition Indian National Congress party won 99 seats, almost doubling its 2019 tally of 52. The Congress-led INDIA alliance won 223 seats and its members are also meeting in New Delhi to discuss a future course of action.

US President Joe Biden also sent his congratulations to Modi signaling their strong friendship.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory, and the nearly 650 million voters in this historic election.

The friendship between our nations is only growing as we unlock a shared future of unlimited potential.”Biden wrote.

Modi was also congratulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
