In a landmark move for East African diplomacy, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is set to arrive in Kenya for a pivotal three-day state visit.
The visit marks a significant stride following the Second Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) between Uganda and Kenya, which concluded successfully at Kampala’s Sheraton Hotel from May 12 to 14.
The JMC sessions ended with both nations reiterating their dedication to swiftly and fully implementing the agreed-upon decisions and other bilateral accords.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi alongside Ugandan minister for foreign affairs Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar who led the summit, signed 7 memoranda of agreements with the aim of strengthening mutual cooperation in vital areas such as Diplomatic training, Public Service Management, Education, SMEs Development, Sports , Youth affairs, Trade and Investment as well as other shared interests.
The summit also agreed for Kenya to host the 3rd Joint Ministerial Commission in Nairobi on 2026.
President Museveni’s visit is in the country is expected to bolster the already strong ties between the two nations, fostering enhanced cooperation across various sectors and addressing crucial regional matters.
Furthermore, the visit highlights the concerted efforts and shared objectives of Uganda and Kenya in tackling trade and investment hurdles.
Museveni’s visit not only symbolizes the robust partnership but also the shared ambitions of Uganda and Kenya, laying a foundation for positive future interactions and regional cooperation.
A proposal has been set forth to convene a joint technical committee meeting aimed at resolving any outstanding issues.
