Prosecution Fights to Keep Ian Njoroge in Custody, Opposes Bail

By Jehoshaphat Kanyoro Njaro

The prosecution has firmly opposed the release of Ian Njoroge on bail, emphasizing the severity of the charges against him. In a recent court session, the prosecution argued that granting bail would not serve the interest of justice given the nature of the alleged offenses.

Ian Njoroge stands accused of multiple serious offenses, including the consistent public assault of a 57-year-old police officer.

The prosecution highlighted the implications of his alleged actions, suggesting that releasing him on bail would send a negative message about the consequences of assaulting law enforcement and public servants.

Furthermore, the prosecution pointed out the risk that Njoroge might interfere with witnesses or evidence. They expressed concern that Njoroge could potentially influence the complainant, who is expected to testify in court.

This concern is underscored by social media reports indicating that the complainant might have been pressured to drop the charges.Additionally, the prosecution referenced a viral video showing Njoroge fleeing the scene of the alleged crime.

This, combined with his subsequent efforts to evade law enforcement, portrays him as a significant flight risk. The prosecution underscored the importance of keeping Njoroge in custody to ensure he faces justice and does not compromise the judicial process.

The court was informed that Njoroge had been arraigned on different counts related to traffic and criminal offenses, further justifying the prosecution’s stance against his release.

Given these arguments, the prosecution firmly believes that Njoroge should remain in custody until the trial concludes.

The court will decide on Njoroge’s bail application on June 7, following a pre-bail assessment report. This decision is awaited with considerable public interest, as it will have significant implications for the handling of similar cases in the future.
