Residents asked to cooperate with security agents

Residents of Mungoma location in Vihiga County have been asked to cooperate with security agents in a bid to beef up security.

Speaking during a public Baraza at Mahanga market, Vihiga County Commissioner, Felix Watakila called on residents to volunteer information to the security agents which will help in arresting and prosecuting criminals.

Watakila urged residents to report insecurity incidences to the police or officers of the National Government Administration Officers and be will help the police arrest and the courts prosecute the suspects.

“It is regrettable that some of you are collaborating with criminals instead of reporting them to security agents so that the rule of law can take its course,” he said.

The county commissioner said the information they give will be treated with confidentiality, adding that they should not fear for their lives since the source of information will not be disclosed.

He said security is the responsibility of every individual and therefore people should assist each other instead of just waiting for the police, since they cannot be all over the place.

Watakila urged bodaboda operators to behave soberly calling on them to desist from operating past 10pm saying some of them were colluding with criminals hence the increase in insecurity cases.

He cautioned residents against disrespecting NGAO citing a case where some hooligans set on fire the house of the assistant chief for Demesi sub location, Oscar Chunguli.

The county commissioner said three suspects in the arson incidence, Bonface Mudome, Nelson Malenje and Derrick Adai have been arrested and will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Deputy County Commissioner Vihiga Sub County, Florence Sitawa said fighting illicit brew and bhang needs the concerted efforts of all residents asking them to be sincere with themselves and report those cases.

Sitawa said she was tired of singing the same song where they close an illicit brew den, and after a few weeks later it’s reopened and residents just watch.

She urged residents to report any suspect to the police saying this will help beef up security, since every person will be cautious and avoid engaging in criminal activities.
