President William Ruto has emphasized on the need for the African continent to embrace innovative agriculture and technology to boost food production and reduce poverty.
The President was in In Bulawayo where he attended the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in the company of host President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
He noted that innovative agriculture could boost the continents economy by promoting the African Intra – trade agreement which will promote regional integration.
“African countries must harness technology to overcome hindrances to the continent’s integration. This will not only accelerate the realisation of the African Continental Free Trade Area but also expose countries to more economic opportunities in the digital space.”The president noted.
With innovation, he said, barriers become bridges, borders transform into portals and challenges turn into opportunities.
“There is no doubt that the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair represents this country’s preparedness to usher in a new era of development driven by the country’s human and natural resources,” said President Ruto.
President Ruto noted that innovation empowers technologies to achieve more in volume and variety, making it easier to satisfy demand and offer choice by saving time whilst increasing the effeciency, quality and quantity of production.
“It guarantees both consistency and security, making both consumers and producers surer about their expectations,” he said.
The president asked all participants and visitors to take advantage of the trade fair and undertake vigorous networking to forge partnerships, collaborate and exchange ideas about the most innovative means of achieving mutual benefit.
“Just as innovation has been defined as the catalyst of industrialisation and trade, I encourage you to make the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair your catalyst of more inspired engagements,” said President Ruto.
