Ruto fears his CSs, he can’t sack any of them – Alfred Keter

Former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter now claims President Willam Ruto has no power before his Cabinet Secretaries.

Keter claims there is no chance that the President will sack any of the CSs. The situation, he argued was based on the long history that Ruto has with the CSs.

In an interview on Spice FM on Thursday, the former MP noted that as much as the President might look firm in public appearance, it is the opposite behind the scenes.

“I know him. You might think he is strong but on a closer look, he fears those CSs – for some reasons that we don’t know,” said Keter, a once ally of the Head of State.

“Ruto and those CSs have come a long way. They have done things together that makes it hard to be sacked as he doesn’t want to offend them,” he added.

A majority of the current cabinet are individuals who were previously in politics but lost during the 2022 general election.

According to the former MP, the only way the country can get back on track economically is if the President dissolved his entire cabinet and appointed fresh faces.

However, he said with the aforementioned situation, it will be almost impossible to see a change in the Cabinet.

“We might not see Ruto changing his Cabinet anytime soon. The way media at one time raised questions about one of the CSs and he defended him, we will have to contend with the current situation,” Keter added.

In addition, the former legislator hit out at the President over his decision to appoint politicians to the role of Principal Secretaries.

He termed the move of the major mistakes under the Kenya Kwanza regime.

“PSs selection is the biggest failure in Ruto’s government. Over 30 of the 52 PSs are not career civil servants yet those positions are for individuals who understand the day-to-day running of a Ministry,” he said.
