Schools to open on Monday, says Interior PS Omolo

The government has put in place enough mechanisms to allow students to resume learning from Monday next week.

State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo said that a total of 1,957 schools had been affected by the heavy rains that have been experienced in the country and that the Ministry of Education was working out ways to ensure normal learning resumes in the schools

The PS said that the government would rehabilitate the affected schools and that movement of students particularly those from boarding schools was scheduled to start tomorrow, Friday to avoid congestion on the roads on Monday next week.

He said that Nairobi County was most affected by the floods as many families had been displaced and that another 21 counties had also been affected by the rains that had caused heavy flooding of homes.

Dr Omolo was speaking in Bungoma after he led National Celebrations Steering Committee meeting members and Bungoma County government officials on an inspection of the works going on at Masinde Muliro stadium, Kanduyi where this year’s Madaraka day celebrations will be held on the 1st of June.

The committee visited Matulo airstrip in Webuye, Kibabii University grounds where a one-week exhibition will be held as a run up to the June 1 celebrations.

The team also inspected the construction works at Bungoma County Commissioner’s residence.

The PS called on residents of Bungoma County to turn up in large numbers to celebrate the day in their home county. He was accompanied by PS State Department for Performance and Delivery Management, Veronica Nduva and PS Devolution Office of the Deputy President Teresia Mbaika.
