The government has intensified it’s war on illegal siphoning of fuel with it’s recent move led to recovery thousands of litres of siphoned fuel were at an old site along Kangundo road.

The crackdown also led to the recovery of a trailer, two fuel tankers, generators fitted with hosepipes, funnels, 20l jerrycans and several tanks containing unestablished amounts of siphoned fuel.

The DCI reports that the tail to the recovery was established after a notable spillage from the site which sits next to a supermarket and an open-air market along KCC Road.

The suspects however managed to flee off upon suspicion of the tail.

preliminary investigations indicate that the business operators are linked to the April 12, 2024 raid conducted behind Shell petrol station off Lunga Road in Nairobi where 41 suspects were arrested and charged, however, the five tankers found at the site later released through a court order.

The DCI has urged members of the public to report cases of illegal fuel siphoning in order to avoid fuel explosions that could lead to the loss of lives and destruction of property as witnessed in the February 2 Embakasi explosion.
