Outspoken Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei questioned whether Citizen TV News Anchor Sam Gituku had been given airtime to defend President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family on the Pandora Papers Expose.
Shollei who was appearing on the Day Break show as a guest on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, made that comment after the two could not agree on the figure stated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
According to the Investigation a total of Ksh3.3 billion associated with the Kenyatta family is being held in offshore accounts.
“According to the report released earlier this week ,the businesses registered in Panama and the British Virgin Island hold bank accounts and real estate worth more than USD30,000,000. If you would convert that against the dollar rate of ksh110,that would come to about 3.3 billion,” Gituku explained.
However, Shollei stated that the properties were worth 3.3 trillion .
“I don’t know if you have been given a brief to defend the Kenyattas on this, I’m saying things that I have read myself,” she affirms.
The woman Rep stated that she had done her research before appearing for the show, forcing Gituku to tell her to share her source of information.
“I would appreciate if you share with us the source because the ICIJ is talking about USD30,000,000,” he interjected.
However Gituku made it clear to the viewers that he was not trying to downplay the figure in any way but rather agreeing to the fact that tat 3.3 billion is a lot of money.
