Siaya county registers more than 3,000 Tuberculosis (TB) cases annually, making it one of the high burden counties, area TB coordinator, Mary Wambura has said.
According to the coordinator, majority of the patients who seek medical assistance early and adhere to the treatment plans get cured.
Speaking at Ukwala public grounds during the World TB Day celebrations, Wambura said the cure rate in Siaya stands at 92%, adding that the county government, in partnership with the national government and other stakeholders have put in place measures to ensure that no one dies of TB.
“In Kenya, Siaya is among the 10 high burden counties. We register between 2500 and 3500 TB clients annually,” she said adding, “some die along the way but majority get cured”.
Addressing the occasion, Ugenya Deputy County Commissioner Beatrice Dekeyo called for close working relationship between the public and relevant stakeholders to meet the national goal of eradicating TB by the year 2030.
Dekeyo, who had earlier read the Health Cabinet Secretary’s speech, said every citizen would have to play his or her part if the goal is to be achieved within the stipulated time lines.
