Hospitals in Kiambu County have received a major boost in medical supplies after Governor Kimani Wamatangi commissioned specialized medical equipment for various health facilities.

Together with the Deputy Governor, Rosemary Kirika, the Governor flagged off the medical equipment which are set for distribution across health facilities in Kiambu,The equipment includes, digital X-ray machines, digital ultrasound machines, patient monitors, BGA machines, portable BP machines, infusion pumps, nebulizers, oxygen concentrators, oxygen flow metres, suction machines, and dental X-ray machines.

“The X-ray machines will be delivered to Thika, Gatundu, Kihara, Karuri, and Igegania hospitals to boost capacity, while the modern ultrasound machines are for Gatundu, Kihara, Ruiru, Nyathuna, and Karuri hospitals.” said Governor Wamatangi during the flag off at the county’s headquarters.

Other medical equipment received were Sonic Aid foetal scopes, pulse oximeters, emergency stretchers, gauze cutters, portable examination lights, wheelchairs, delivery beds, hydraulic mortuary trolleys, and portable drip stands.

Dr. Elias Maina, the CEMC Health services in Kiambu said that in a bid to improve healthcare services, the Department of Health purchased the assorted hospital equipment worth Ksh. 500 million as part of the Marshall plan to equip hospitals with state-of-the-art medical equipment.

“The availability of cutting-edge technology, well-kept facilities, and qualified healthcare workers are frequently linked to the quality of healthcare services. Without suitable infrastructure, people may travel significantly to get medical services, delaying or even forgoing treatment,” Dr Maina said.

In a recent visit to Gatundu Level 5 Hospital, Wamatangi also commissioned state-of-the-art X-ray and ultrasound machines to revamp CT-scan services that will ensure swift and accurate services are acquired.

The governor noted that his efforts are aimed at improving the health sector in the county, ultimately improving the lives of Kiambu residents.

The significant boost in healthcare around the county is said to be promising considering that the Kiambu County government has been implementing a multi-million shillings programme to ensure that residents access free quality healthcare services in public hospitals under the Universal Health Care (UHC) dubbed Kiambu Afya.
