Traffic flow partially restored on Mai Mahiu – Suswa – Narok Road

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a partial reopening of the Mahiu – Suswa – Narok road.

KeNHA in a statement on Saturday however said ongoing heavy rains were happening complete restoration.

“Further to our update on the closure of the Mai Mahiu – Suswa section of B7 Road, we wish to notify road users that traffic flow has partially been restored and opened to traffic,” read part of the statement.

“However, heavy rains continue pounding the area hampering complete restoration,” it added.

The authority further advised motorists to exercise caution as they drive through the affected sections and follow guidance from traffic marshals.

KeNHA warned that motorist that ignore guidance from traffic marshals might end up stuck on silt deposits.

“The affected sections fall between the Weighbridge and Suswa Ranch (from 14km to 40km from Mai Mahiu,” the authority said.

Meanwhile, KeNHA has assured motorists that it is working round the clock to ensure safety of all road users.

It also affirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe massage of goods and services for economic prosperity.

“At KeNHA, your safety is our utmost priority,” noted the authority through its Director General Kung’u Ndung’u.

Since the onset of the long rains, KeNHA has been issuing a regular update on closure of roads due to floodings and washaways.

On Thursday, it closed part of the Eldoret – Nakuru highway at Timboroa market after it showed signs of collapse.

While announcing the roads’s closure, the agency asked motorists to use alternative routes.

Traffic on the affected area has not yet been restored.
