Kapsilipwo village in Narok South Sub location is yet to come to terms with the death of two brothers who committed suicide after allegedly differing with their father on land division.
Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare said the two bodies were found hanging on a tree in the nearby forest hours after their father sub-divided their family land, which they had bitterly opposed.
Vincent Kipkorir Koech, 19, and his younger brother Gilbert Kibet Koech, 17, are said to have come to a common agreement to kill themselves after they failed to resolve their differences with their father.
According to the police brief, the father of the deceased had two wives and that the elder one namely Alice Chebet, whom he had divorced many years back, returned home after her son Joseph Koech had died and buried on March 20, 2024.
After the burial, their father decided to divide his piece of land part of which he gave to the first wife, a move the deceased sons disputed and issued threats saying they would kill all the members of the family or commit suicide if their father failed to revoke his decision.
“They caused violence in the homestead causing the family members to flee for their safety. They said they will either kill all their family members or commit suicide,” read the police report.
Thursday evening, the villagers saw the duo carrying ropes headed towards the forest direction where they were found Friday hanging on a tree with ropes around their necks.
The two bodies were taken to Longisa County Referral hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting postmortem.
The Police Commander regretted the move and asked residents to find better ways of resolving conflict instead of taking away their precious lives.
