Two pillion passengers, Sunday evening, lost their lives after a motorcycle they were traveling on was hit by a personal car in Murang’a town.
The accident that happened near Family Heritage Hospital, along Murang’a – Kangema road involved two personal cars and two motorcycles.
A driver of a Toyota Harrier vehicle, who was heading towards Murang’a town hit another car and in the attempt to escape, he hit two motorcycles, each ferrying three passengers.
Murang’a East Sub-county Police Commander, Mary Wakuu, confirming the incident said the two died on the spot in the 8.30pm accident and the five other pillion passengers and the two boda boda riders, were left nursing critical injuries.
She said the driver of the Toyota Harrier also sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at the Murang’a Level-5 Hospital.
“After investigations, we established, the driver of a Toyota Harrier was attempting to escape after he hit another vehicle, which was in front of him near Heritage Hospital, near Murang’a town. It’s unfortunate the driver also hit two motorcycles, which were also heading towards Murang’a town.
“The driver of the Toyota Harrier who is currently admitted at County Referral Hospital will face charges of careless driving and causing the accident that left two people dead,” added Wakuu.
She cautioned drivers to exercise caution, calling on boda boda operators to adhere to the law and have one pillion passenger at a time.
Bodies of the two were taken to Murang’a County Hospital mortuary, as the wreckage were towed to Murang’a Police Station.
