Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has flagged off revenue enforcement officers in a bid to enhance revenue collection and improve service delivery in the county.
Speaking at the county headquarters during the flagging off, Dr Bii noted that the target for the revenue to be collected in the financial year 2023/24 is Sh1.179 billion, marking a significant increase from the Sh980 million collected in the previous financial year.
“This is a compliance exercise, and we call on our business community to support us in this endeavour. When we raise enough revenue, we are then capable of providing more services to our citizens who deserve nothing but the best,” stated Bii.
He urged county clients to make sure they comply by paying their required fees in order to fully support the revenue compliance and enhancement plan.
“The more my administration increases the revenue base through the collection, the county will receive more money from the treasury, which will allow for the provision of more and better services, including jobs for young people,” said the county boss.
“We have issued SMS alerts to all clients whose business details were captured during the business mapping exercise informing them that my team will be visiting them for compliance purposes,” said Bii.
He noted that the administration has made significant strides by establishing a county service centre, a one-stop shop for various services.
Additionally, he noted that the introduction of a state-of-the-art revenue management system has revolutionised the monitoring and collection process, making it more efficient and transparent.
“Our focus is to decentralise all services to the ward level, ensuring accessibility for all citizens,” added the Governor.
He added that the compliance team has a month to conclude the exercise, ensuring thorough and efficient operations in order to achieve the Sh 300 million deficit.
