The East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has announced that it’s changing its trading name to East African Breweries plc.
In a statement shared with the public and members of the media, the company said that it had met all the requirements for a name change as stipulated in the law of the land.
The new name came into usage on 1 October, 2021 the company further stated.
“The Board of Directors of East African Breweries Limited hereby announces for the benefit of its Shareholders and the General Public that the Company that pursuant to the issuance of the Certificate of Change of Name by the Registrar of Companies, the Company has changed its name from “East African Breweries Limited” to “East African Breweries plc” with effect from 1st October 2021,” the statement read in part.
“This change has been made in compliance with the requirements of the Companies Act, 2015 and was duly approved by the Shareholders of the Company during the 2021 virtual Annual General Meeting held on 14” September 2021.
“Kindly note that the Company will continue to trade as EABL, which is a duly registered business name and trademark owned by the Company, “ the statement adds.
EABL, a major player in the lucrative liquor industry, assured that its contractual obligations will not in any way be affected by the name change.
Despite facing strong competition from other players like Keroche Industries, the company founded decades ago continues to enjoy market dominance. It boasts of a nationwide presence and given its size has been able to benefit from the economies of scale.
As a publicly quoted company, major decisions have to be approved by its shareholders who have to be notified of the decisions for ratification or rejection.
